Buyer's reply: We are not stuck,
currently our projects are out to tender to main contractors, although many
issues have to be resolved at the earliest time e.g. during the design and
development stage the whole building has to be tendered by a main contractor.
Many of our projects
are quite large and in view of this fact the tender period takes time. Generally
contractors are appointed during the main winter period. Ground work will
commence before spring and ordering of façade materials on two year construction
programmes will commence the following summer for supply 6-8 months
later.
We are quite familiar
with thin stone veneers and their performance especially in the Central European
Environment as we are involved in a lot of forensic work on existing facades,
floors etc and many offers that we are presented are in our opinion not of the
quality that we require.
We are
mindful of the performance of any many materials that we specify on our projects
and often go to great lengths to ensure any materials will and do perform and
for this reason many offers made to us are rejected at a very early
stage.
Quality of materials
supplied in this region has been low in the last 5-7 years, the industry is now
in recession and better quality materials are now sought, failure of façade
materials especially in this region has been prolific, the memorial stone
business in this region is the dominant market force, however memorial stones
are not façade stones.
I hope you

investors is Austrian and would like to use an Austrian
Stone. I am not convinced of
green stones especially in heavy polluted environments, any ferrous materials in
the stone tend to oxidise, if ferrous materials oxidise they expand this causes
veneers to expand and fail. We also
require quite a lot of this material 8,000m2 and we are not convinced that it is
readily available (I was offered it from India). We were unable to
locate reliable stone test data according to ASTM standards, if anyone can
advise us better we would recommend the material, meanwhile everything is open.
